Combining Elevation Data With Raster Images

Elevation data in the form of digital elevation models can be used to dramatically enhance
scenes in geographically referenced images such as digital raster graphics from the United
States Geological Survey and digital orthophotos that can be downloaded free from a
variety of sources. Below we have demonstrated the technique using data from the Six
Mile Creek Natural Area in Ithaca, NY. Images such as these can be generated for
virtually any location in the United States.
