R/Shiny tool for Cornell University
A web application to explore education data

The project
The data dashboard includes maps, charts, and interactive tables to allow users to get a detailed view of data from the New York State Office of Special Education (OSE) Educational Partnership.
Our role
We polished and expanded an existing Shiny-based web application for Cornell University. The work involved significant data processing as the raw data from New York State often comes in the form of Excel spreadsheets that need validating, summarizing, cleaning, and reformatting for use in the application. The work also involved the development of custom approaches for table sorting that allow the app to display multiple different forms of missing data.
Features of the work
- We wrote the application using R/Shiny.
- We employed Shiny modules to organize and namespace the code.
- We used
highcharterto create responsive charts. - We took advantage of the
renvR package to manage dependencies.
